Forgács Klára - Hand Made Hungary

I am Klára Forgács and I live in Székesfehérvár, Hungary with my family
( a husband + three children :)
I make knitwear, lace designs and accessories. My passion for collecting yarns has become employment. Since then I have been enjoying having more and more yarns.
This started decades ago with my mother's yarns and threads. I have been attracted by the appeal of different coloured yarns ever since. I have even learnt to weave, but woven material has to be tailored and what I like most about knitting and crocheting is shaping & fitting a piece to the figure while working on it. The best ideas spring up out of necessity during improvement.
It is a great feeling to create a piece of clothes from the ground up, when I can mix the threads and then produce the surfaces of the fabrics. I use my knitting machine only as a help, the patterns, cuts and pieces are assembled with hand and the final form is created by crocheting, embroidering or by adding other trimmings.
First, of course, I design and make everything for myself. Sometimes the models find their owners without any alteration, though it more often happens that we design them together with my customers.
I don't mind conforming to different dressing styles whether it is an individual or a business order. It is a challenge for me to find and devise the pieces matching everybody in colour and form and which they can happily wear for a long time.
"I don't have anything to put on when my favourite pullover is in the wash." This is the highest praise I have ever received.
I work with yarns of exclusively high quality. They are usually natural fibres. Wearing cotton makes the skin feel pleasant, wool is fine & warm, silk fits close to the body without sticking to it and it also cools in summer.
My designs are not determined by fashion trends. Although they influence my taste, I don't like models bearing the noticeable characteristic signs of a fashion trend. The purpose of choosing the right material and the design is to emphasize its owners' personality instead of fashion trends. The product must be uniqe and last long in every respect.
It's since I started to knit that I have known that a dress can be elegant without feeling uneasy, so even a formal outfit can be comfortable wear.
Getting a degree in accountancy made me realize that it is not the line I would like to enter. So after doing a few textile courses and staging on some (succesful) fashion shows I set up my own business.
The Jury of Fine and Applied Arts rated my pieces of work as products of applied art. I think I am a craftsman, which means quality work. I always consider for the wishes of my customers and spend the sufficient time and energy on designing and achieving the best custom fit.
I have been happy for 15 years because I have made a good decision: My hobby is my work.
